World Series Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51M viewers across the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete American average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
