Minister States MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the possible security risks associated with Chinese vehicles, and staff have been told to refrain from discussing secret matters in any vehicles.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD staff have been told not to discuss secret information while travelling in Chinese vehicles.

The minister stated that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but noted that security is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their car, to avoid having discussions at a secret classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in all vehicle, to only have those secret talks in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

The revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable public transport and bring disruption to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader security situation highlights the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official operations, from vehicle use to discussions practices.
