Man City 3-0 The Red Devils: Hemp on target in City dominant win.

Much like Storm Claudia hit the north-west the previous evening, the home side overwhelmed Manchester United away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing three goal win for their manager's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a performance that clearly signaled their title credentials as they reinforced their position at the WSL pinnacle.

Consecutive Defeats for United

This outcome represented back-to-back WSL setbacks for Marc Skinner’s side for the initial occasion since May 2024, placing them seven points off the league leaders with their title hopes in serious doubt.

United’s capability to juggle league and European football with a small squad has been a widely debated issue since they earned a place in the Champions League. Reviewing the calendar, it always seemed this was the week that would truly test this fortitude. Sadly for the opposition, they looked weary all game, the historic win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having had an impact.

Tactical Shifts

Marc Skinner had attempted to make changes with a handful of alterations. Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Galton all added freshness, although the omission of the in-form Malard to the substitutes was questioned.

Manchester City, in opposition, have fewer workload concerns. The City coach made one change from their most recent win over Everton with Hemp making her return to the lineup since recovering from a fitness issue.

Commanding Opening Period

Early Chances

Scoring Spree
